A memoir by April Smith. Launching December 5, 2026.

A true story of pain, faith, and the daily choice to keep living. Doctors removed her stomach. They could not remove her hope. April Smith shares the story she’s told in living rooms, hospital waiting rooms, and campgrounds, so anyone facing their own fight knows hope is still within reach.

About the book

“How do you do it?”

That is the question April hears the most. This book is her answer.

For years, April lived with pain that no one could explain. Doctors ran tests, wrote prescriptions, and told her to relax. Then, in June 2021, everything changed. She was flown to a hospital in Denton, Texas, and placed on life support. By December of that year, surgeons had removed her stomach, her spleen, and parts of her intestines, and admitted they did not know what life would look like afterward.

Against All Odds: The Fight Within is the story of what came next. It is about learning to live in a body that hurts, fighting to be heard by doctors, and leaning on a husband who never gave up on her. It is about faith in the Lord Jesus Christ that carried her when medicine could not. And it is about the day she and David decided to stop waiting and start living, packing up an RV and heading down the road.

With a foreword by John Choquer.

“Find one reason to stay. Just one. Protect it.

Build around it.”
